Research methodology

Evidence before inference.

A straightforward framework for reading Texas public records without filling gaps with assumptions.

Trace each fact to its source

Figures and recorded events should retain a source, year, and applicable observation period. Commodity references carry their publisher, location, and explicit units. Public research points readers toward original publishers where a verified source URL is available.

Unknowns stay visible

A missing production record is not zero production. An absent enforcement record is not enforcement clearance. An unavailable source remains unavailable; it is not silently replaced with a guessed value.

Milestones are distinct events

A filed permit, an approved permit, a documented spud, a filed completion, an approved completion, and documented first sales are separate events. One date is not used to infer another.

Aggregates need evidence and sample context

Published geographic aggregates require approved methodology, a stated sample unit and count, source, year, period, and minimum sample thresholds. Small cells and complementary values that could reveal them are suppressed together. No SEC-derived baselines are published here.

Corrections preserve original facts

Members submit a claim and proposed correction for owner review, with optional official evidence. A request does not rewrite the source fact or guarantee acceptance. A correction record is the review history, not a replacement source.
